So recently I went on a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. It was initially supposed to be a Study Abroad trip, but it ended up being simply a trip (which was amazing), Still, the fact that the entire world went into a panic because of the swine flu and people were saying that you got it from pigs and that it originated in Mexico was wrong. During the whole time that I was in Oaxaca, I never once encountered the swine flu. And then there was the question of the 2,000 deaths in Mexico city. Mexico city has millions of people and we're going to concentrate on 2,000 of them? Pretty sad indeed.
Well, the issue now is that since I didn't get any credit from the study abroad trip, I'm at my University now taking two Spanish classes and they overlap by an hour. One is a literature class and one is a grammar class. I miss an hour of the grammar class. The upside is that they are in the same building at least.
The moral of the story with the Swine flu, is that you honestly have to check and investigate on your own instead of believing everyone else and letting the hype pull you under. I mean look at Steven's Point; they did and all of them are enjoying a very nice time in Mexico. I give their professor props for going down and investigating. Mexico was amazing, don't get me wrong, but credit would have been lovely as well.
