What I'm Listening To: Amazing Grace-Chris Tomlin
Nothing too good to report today. My fingers have been MIA because I got a really bad case of carpal tunnel the other day. I did get my first email issue of Publishers Marketplace today, but I'm pretty sure that I'm going to have to just subscribe to the whole thing. As another note, I just finished Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr and it is fabulous. The conflict in that book was insane and reminded me a little of the love conflict in my book, but on a smaller scale. I definitely recommend it. I fell in love with it because of the amazing descriptions of the faerie folk and their world. Definitely reading Ink Exchange, the second book, and I'll have to buy Fragile Eternity, the third book. I can't wait for the fourth book to come out.
I can't even remember what round of editing this is for me. I'm debating whether to go through it again or to simply focus on researching agents for it. I still have to start my other project as well. I'm really excited about it. I have about twelve other projects that I would love to get off of the ground, but simply don't have the time. This semester is going to be even more crazy because I have to figure out how to balance my time more. My journalism school decision hasn't come in yet, and I'm not sure if that's a good sign. I still have to apply for all of these programs, and I still haven't memorized my monologue for the Vagina Monologues yet.
Hopefully I'll have researched the agents enough that one accepts this time. I'm nervous about a lot of things because they all have to be decided soon, and about my volatile future, but hopefully they will all be resolved soon.

Two Books Every Aspiring Author (who really wants to get published) should read
What I'm Listening To: My Life Would Suck Without You-Kelly Clarkson
So while I was in NYC, another author from Kentucky who had a stellar query letter told me that she had gotten all of her tips from this book. And it was free. I turned to her in disbelief. I had never heard of this book before and I had been searching he internet high and low for some pointers on a good query letter. She told me that it was by Noah Lukeman and immediately when I got home, I looked it up. Sure enough, there was a FREE downloadable e-book called How to Write a Great Query Letter by Noah Lukeman. He has also written How to Land (and keep) a Literary Agent which I also bought. He also has a couple more books that are pretty good. And why, you ask, are they good?
Noah Lukeman has had over 13 years of experience as an agent. So when he points out some of the key mistakes and what not to do, I definitely am going to follow it. He has represented many bestsellers and prize winners as well. The same is true about Donald Mass, the author of the next book I'm going to talk about. It's called Writing the Breakout Novel. This book has all of the key ingredients of a good book, and I was really happy to see that I already had many of them. However, it doesn't hurt to enhance or go over your book to see that it definitely is top notch. Another thing to note, is that in both book titles, the authors both put INSIDER advice or INSIDER tips. They both are really successful agents, they both know what agents are looking for, and that gives them the credibility over any other to write these types of books because they will help to get aspiring authors published. I know that I'm going not going to regret the money I invested in buying these books and definitely listen to their advice, how about you?

My Starbucks Idea

Okay for all of you Starbucks drinkers, I've got something for you, and I need your help. For all of you who already have a Starbucks account, go to the My Starbucks Idea page. You'll have to create a username to be able to comment, but that only takes a minute. Search for the idea "Starbucks Coupons in Poetry Book" and PLEASE vote for it. I'm trying to get something launched so that I can get my poetry book published. All you have to do is vote, it should only take a couple of minutes of your time, and you would be able to get a FREE (I think I should say that again) FREE Starbucks drink with the purchase of my new poetry book "The O.C. Period: A Poetic Chronicle of Outta Control Periods." So please take the time to go and vote so that corporate will decide to take on the idea.
On another note, I'm going to try and contact Nikki Giovanni today because a friend told me that she answers most of her fan mail, and because I enjoy a lot of her work. Hopefully she contacts me back soon (even though a lot of these people have no time in their life, like me, lol).
My Spanish Literature class ends on Thursday (I was bonking) which is a relief. I just had a test today in the Grammar class and I pray that went well because I was hurrying. Besides that, I'm trying to finish the short story collection and I can't wait for the new website. Ciao :)
